Co-Editor in Chief: Bruce Yao

 

Bruce is a fifth-year student majoring in International Relations with a minor in Geography (environment and sustainability). His primary academic focus is climate policy, with an emphasis on natural resource management, circular economy, and carbon pricing. In addition, he is interested in Asian international relations and Asian-American politics and culture. In his spare time, Bruce enjoys hiking, bouldering, and trying new restaurants.

 

Co-Editor in Chief: Sophie Salas

 

Sophie is a fourth-year B+MM student majoring in International Relations. Her areas of academic specialization are state security and diplomacy; particularly the study of hybrid warfare. In addition, Sophie is interested in European international relations and NATO. Outside of UBC, Sophie enjoys travelling and collects postcards from around the world.

  • Deeba Mehr

    Deeba is a fourth-year student majoring in International Relations with a minor in Commerce. Her academic interests include geopolitics and the role of multinational corporations in current and historical international affairs. Academics aside, Deeba loves exploring different coffee shops around the city and listening to podcasts on long walks.

  • Acacia Philcox

    Acacia is a third year student majoring in Political Science with a minor in International Relations. Her primary academic focus is the politics of international law, notably the governance and armament of outer space. In addition, she's interested in theories of IR, global trade and the rise of BRICS nations. In her spare time, Acacia enjoys watercolour painting, martial arts and trying various types of teas.

  • Carter MacLean

    Carter is a fourth year international-relations major with a minor in Commerce originally from Toronto. He is particularly interested in European Integration and the political and economic state of the world right now. Outside of class, Carter enjoys reading, skiing, hiking, traveling, karaoke and Sunday morning brunches.

  • Cedric Lin

    Cedric is a third-year B+MM student majoring in International Relations. His primary academic focus is on the development of developing countries, stemming from his career experience in Asia and life experience in North America. In addition, Cedric is interested in the emergence of global superpowers. Outside of academics, Cedric enjoys playing golf, skiing, and savouring different desserts.

  • Christy Lim

    Christy is a fourth-year Political Science (Hons.) student from South Korea. Her areas of academic interests include global trends in democracy and development, women's rights, and digital literacy. She is also intrigued by debates around soft power, specifically the role of popular culture and mass media in international norm diffusion. Some of her favorite things outside of academics: catching pink sunsets, collecting random souvenirs, and the first sip of coffee after a long run.

  • Deborah Wong

    Deborah is a fourth year International Relations major with a minor in Asian Canadian and Asian Migration Studies. Her areas of academic interests include soft power, public diplomacy and decolonial studies. Deborah also finds critical media studies and diasporic culture invigorating areas of research. In her free time, she also enjoys cafe-hopping and trying new cuisines.

  • Erika Peterson

    Erika is a second-year student majoring in International Relations and Philosophy. Her main academic interest is political theory, especially as it relates to Marxism and revolutions in the Global South. Geographically, she specializes in Latin American history and politics. Outside of school, she enjoys cross country skiing, running, and all types of iced coffee.

  • Esmee Poh

    Esmee is a fourth-year student majoring in International Relations with a minor in Economics. Her primary academic interest is in international economic development. More specifically, she is interested in how greater development could be achieved through a better understanding of unique social/historical constraints and inefficient policies produced by weak institutions. In her free time, she enjoys trying out new restaurants with friends and biking along the Seawall.

  • Harel Ruhr

    Harel is a third year International Relations student who previously completed a diploma of Business Management at Langara College. His academic interest focuses primarily on the intersection between international trade and environmental policy within the context of global diplomatic relations. Harel’s special interest developed as he delved into the agricultural dynamics of Eastern Europe, particularly in the aftermath of the Ukraine Invasion. In his freetime, Harel is a passionate chef who is always trying new recipes and loves photography.

  • Kalum Ng

    Kalum is a History major with a keen interest in how our understanding of history informs our identities and influences politics and policy. They are especially interested in the modern history of the Asia-Pacific region. In their spare time, Kalum loves lion dancing, researching new meal prep recipes and shopping for tupperwares.

  • Khushi Nathowalia

    Khushi is a third-year student majoring in International Relations, with academic interests such as conflict resolution, peacekeeping, and public diplomacy. She is also interested in women's studies -- specifically, women in the Global South. In her free time, Khushi enjoys reading, hot yoga, and trying new cuisines.

  • Lance Tam

    Lance is a fourth-year student majoring in History and minoring in Asian Area Studies. His areas of academic interests are 19th and 20th century world history, the formation of nation states and national identities, and historiography. Lance is also interested in Asian transnationalism and Asian American culture, being third generation Chinese American himself. In his spare time, Lance is an avid fencer, movie buff, foodie, and tea connoisseur.

  • Lea Lassen

    Lea Lassen is a fourth-year student majoring in International Relations. Her primary academic focus is on diplomacy and security in Europe and East Asia. She is interested in organizations like the UN and NATO and has most recently been researching public-private partnerships in defence. In her spare time, Lea enjoys reading, drawing and exploring new cafes.

  • Louise Ziegler

    Louise is a third-year student from France majoring in International Relations and minoring in Law & Society. Her primary academic focus lies in diplomacy and security studies. In addition, she is interested in Asian politics, especially focusing on India and China, stemming from her childhood in the region. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with close friends.

  • Mihir Singh

    Mihir is a fourth-year student majoring in Economics and International Relations, specifically interested in public policy and development economics. She particularly enjoys exploring how theoretical economic models play out in real-world political contexts. In her spare time, Mihir enjoys gardening, watching movies, and trying out new recipes.

  • Montserrat Avendano

    Montse is a third-year student majoring in International Relations with a minor in Law and Society. Her primary academic focus is Human Rights in policies, laws, and practice, notably equality and anti-discrimination ideals. Montse is interested in International Organizations such as the UN and their influence on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid. Montse is originally from Mexico City; she enjoys travelling and wants to live in as many places as possible.

  • Rayan Aich

    Rayan is a fourth-year student majoring in International Relations. His main areas of academic interest are warfare and immigration, particularly on how conflict contributes to refugee crises. His other interests include South Asian politics and International Relations, American and Canadian politics, and counter-terrorism. In his free time, he enjoys reading history books, hiking, and watching soccer.

  • Ruedi Kelsch

    Ruedi is a fourth-year student majoring in International Relations and Geography. Given the global nature of climate change and of the concept of sustainability, he intends to pursue cross-border environmental policy. His academic interests include clean energy transitions, marine conservation, and marine resource management, especially from the perspective of Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Ruedi’s work stems from his love for hiking, skiing, or adding to his list of observed plant and animal species.

  • Tanisha Gandhi

    Tanisha is a third-year student from Vancouver majoring in Political Science, and minoring in International Relations. She is very interested in political journalism, and security studies, specifically peacekeeping and conflict resolution. Outside of UBC, Tanisha enjoys attending workout classes, trying new cafes, and reading!
