The JIA has been publishing distinguished undergraduate student research in the field of international relations since 1985.

We are currently hiring a production manager for the 2024/25 edition.

Position Description

The production manager will work closely with the editors-in-chief (EiCs) to produce the print and digital editions of JIA’s 2025 issue. This may involve coordinating printing timelines and designing graphics.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that JIA’s 2025 issue is published by the end of May 2025

  • Work with a publishing company to coordinate physical print copies

  • Publish the digital print edition to accompany physical copies

  • Prepare journal graphics and format

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong time management skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Detail-oriented

  • Graphic design experience/skills

  • Asset: Prior experience working with academic journals, print media or professional writing

  • Asset: Prior publishing experience

Time Commitment:

  • Term 2

    • biweekly meetings with EiCs

    • 5-10 hours of work per week, working independently and with EiCs

Important note: Production Managers are still eligible to submit their articles for consideration to the JIA in future editions.

  • A response to the question: “Why are you interested in working with the Journal of International Affairs?”

    • A maximum of 300 words

    • Submitted directly in the application form

    • The response may also highlight your broader interests in International Relations

Successful applicants will be contacted in the week following their application for a brief interview with the Editors in Chief. They should be prepared to talk about themselves, their interest in the JIA and the discipline of international relations, and their previous experience related to teamwork and collaboration. No specific preparation is required.
